Chapter 27 – Defeat the Goblins
Sant’s expression was infinitely serious. His face seemed to be saying something so obvious that it seemed as if setting fire to this place was no different from claiming that people would get thirsty if they didn’t drink water.
“No, setting fires? Aren’t there forest fires?”
“It’s not even autumn, and just lighting a fire in front of a cave doesn’t start a forest fire.”
Hagisa Seeing that all the vegetation is now green, it seems unlikely that there will be a fire unless it is a moderate fire. Forest fires don’t work well in the summer. If you think of it as just an extension of a bonfire, it makes sense.
“If you set fire to the inside of the cave entrance, the smoke will fill it up. Then the goblins inside will come out. Hit them then and you’ll be able to catch them easily.”
“Ohhh, sure. Good idea.”
At that, I clapped my hands. Certainly, the goblins weren’t that smart, so it was highly unlikely they would have made the same ventilation system separately when making the cave. If you start a fire, you’ll either suffocate in the smoke or try to escape by biting into crab foam.
That was a good idea.
Is it the difference between being able to think like this in itself?
Certainly there seems to be no better way than setting a fire.
I thought about whether or not to go in blindly, but Sandt adopted a method of inducing the other side to come out with a change of thinking. And if all the goblins were roasted in smoke and pulled out, the difficulty of exploring the inside of the cave would be drastically lowered. It was almost like seeing two effects at once.
For reference, goblins are very kind and pretty guys who have a habit of hoarding ‘things that can make money’ in their burrows. In other words, the fact that treasure goblins drop rare items in the game was by no means a fiction.
“Then wouldn’t it be better to set up a trap or something in front of it? Hmm, that would be very nice. You won’t fall while trying to get out.”
Said Marya. It was such a groundbreaking idea that I clapped my hands again. When the goblins, blinded by the smoke and fire, rushed out, it seemed that even a simple pit could cause even greater confusion.
If you fall over and over again, you can hope for a stroke like death, and those with limited movement will have a higher chance of suffocating from the smoke they inhaled.
And as the entrance becomes crowded, they will feel difficulties in escaping. Then we can simply slaughter them.
“What? Why is your hair so nice?”
“This is the basics.”
She smiled broadly, saying she had a good idea. It was a smile that seemed to make even the viewer feel better.
“It would be good to install a simple wooden fence.”
In the productive atmosphere of this highly engaged elementary school class meeting, Gibson also voiced his opinion.
“I can’t believe it! That way!”
I praised Gibson with exaggerated movements. Certainly, there was nothing better than setting up a wooden fence. It seems that you can easily slaughter goblins who are literally trapped in fire and smoke.
It was not for nothing that the teachers begged the elementary school students to participate in the class meeting. Such helpful ideas! If only I could go back, I want to go back to my school days and do some hard work in class meetings.
“Then, let’s each gather the materials. Branches that can be burned, or thick trees that can be used to build a simple wooden fence.”
At Sandt’s direction, Meria and Gibson moved to gather the lumber. If so, wouldn’t that be what I’m going to do? Due to my experience in the military, my ability to dig is in the realm of a master. I’ll dig a nice pit and turn it into a grave for the goblins.
“Ah, I dig the ground. I made a living doing digging in my childhood.”
“Let it be.”
I immediately decided to dig up the ground using a blunt twig and a scabbard that had been rolling around. Considering the short stature of the goblins, they would easily fall over even if they were dug to some extent.
“Ah, there’s no need to dig deep. It’s enough that the panicked goblins get their feet caught when they run out in confusion.”
“It is.”
That’s how our work progressed smoothly. Even so, Meria, a woman, had three men in her prime, so work was quick. Meria piled up the collected branches and bushes at the entrance to the cave, and Sant and Gibson gathered trees of appropriate size and built a simple wooden fence.
I also got triggered and dug up the pits in an instant.
But why can’t these 10 goblins pluck their noses? In common sense, no matter how bad your brain is, isn’t it normal for people to snoop around if you’re doing this kind of trick in front of your house?
“Did these bastards take some medicine and fall asleep? It’s so noisy outside, but they’re not coming out.”
Although we are working quietly in our own way, maintaining prayer secrets, even so, it is strange that we are so quiet. Are goblins really that kind of creature? I don’t know the details because I only had experience hunting in small groups in the field.
“Since you say you plunder at night, maybe you sleep during the day? Or are you going deep?”
“Are there no guards?”
“I don’t think that goblins or orcs have heads like that.”
If so, that would be it.
Unlike the Orcs, a group of powerful monsters, there must be a reason why Goblins did not become a mainstream race. I decided not to care too much. They’re all idiots anyway, so you don’t have to worry about them.
Although I couldn’t do business, time was a little tight for me to think about useless things.
Let’s dig the ground hard.
“Hmm… I guess that’s enough.”
After some time, the work was completed.
I completed small, wide pit traps in front of the entrance to the cave, and Gibson and Sandt built wooden barriers a little more than waist high behind the pits. Meria had already put a lot of bulky bushes and kindling sticks made of tree branches inside the cave.
People do a really good job.
Maybe this is enough to start slowly.
“Then shall we light a fire? Hwaseopja has something.”
I looked back at Sant and said. He felt a bit silly at first, but now it’s no exaggeration to say that he’s a complete party leader. After all, the time that comes from age and muscle was reliable. Muscles don’t lie.
“Let’s begin.”
I took the Hwaseopja out of the pouch. It was a convenient tool for making a simple fire that I had used once when I was homeless with Sister Elise.
“Oh, it’s a bit scary. Who likes setting fires here? A great chance to enjoy your hobby.”
“…”
“…”
While everyone was looking at each other with puzzled looks, Meria spoke.
“Do it quickly. He’s distracted and scared.”
If a barbarian is afraid of fire, will it be used?
“Tsk, what am I going to do?”
I split the hwaseopja in half. Seeing a small fire burning inside, I threw it into the bush.
“Oh, it sticks. It sticks.”
“You’re nervous.”
Shortly thereafter, smoke began to seep out. Then it started to burn from the inside of the bush, and caught fire.
“It would have been easier if there was a wizard. With one shot of wind magic, I could drive all the flames and smoke inside.”
“I know, right.”
Small fires grew bigger and bigger. Finally, the entire forest began to burn and puff out black smoke. Smoke appeared to enter the interior of the cave. The flames were stronger than we thought, so we threw all kinds of branches into it to put more things to burn.
“Ride wildly. Roaringly.”
It was a truly mesmerizing sight. Had there been Hassan next to us, it was clear that he would have been delighted, saying, ‘I didn’t know people in another world had such a beautiful custom.’ Since ancient times, there has been no more enjoyable content than Buddhist scriptures.
Fire has the power to charm people. It seemed that now I could understand the psychological state of notorious arsonists. The fire ate up the wood and grew bigger and bigger.
“Get ready soon.”
After throwing some kindling sticks in, we followed Sant’s instructions and lowered ourselves behind the wooden fence and stared into the cave.
—Gulp.
Moment of tension.
“Come.”
Said Sant.
ㅡKiryaaaaa!
As the dog tensed up and tightened its grip on the knife, the cries of evil beasts resounded from inside the cave, as if the world was tearing apart. The sounds that flowed from the depths grew closer and closer as time went on.
The goblins are escaping.
ㅡ Keg strategy!
ㅡKiryaak!
ㅡKeruk! Keruk!
“Come out!”
ㅡQueek!
Soon the goblins appeared.
“Oh, fuck you guys!”
“Can’t you come out?”
“Looks like it.”
However, those who appeared screaming did not seem to be able to overcome the piles of brush that were already burning. Behind the flames, the shadows of the goblins were only screaming and stamping their feet.
No matter how hurried he was, he hadn’t turned his head enough to break through the fire pit. But they didn’t have a choice.
“Wouldn’t it all burn to death like that?”
“It’ll start popping out before it chokes.”
Gibson’s question was answered by Sandt. As the saying goes, the guys are starting to use their hands now.
ㅡKerak!!!!!
Then the completely distraught goblin at the forefront bravely broke through the burning brush to freedom.
After that, one, two, three, four… Countless goblins formed a fight and tried to follow them.
ㅡKeureuk!
ㅡ Keg strategy!
ㅡKryak!
But I couldn’t.
The one who jumped out from the lead got caught in the pit dug in front of the cave and fell down, and those who followed were also tripped by the ones who fell in front of them. Even then, it was not enough, so the guys who came after him only directed the Aguido where they fell again.
And then they burned. That look was pretty funny.
ㅡCreak!
Along with a bitter cry, there was a smell of burning meat and the smell of cooking meat.
Panicked and confused, the goblins tried to escape to the smoke and fire side just to survive, but now the entrance was saturated with fallen and already dead guys. We forced them into a desperate situation where they couldn’t come out any further and couldn’t even escape into the cave.
“Now!”
Sant advanced, aiming his spear. Everyone in the party stuck to his side and formed a line to approach the goblins.
ㅡFuck!
ㅡ Crack!
We attacked the goblins as they were. I trampled on the heads of the fallen goblins and inserted the knife between the collarbones of the goblins crawling on top of the fallen comrades.
The guys already had no will to fight. This wasn’t a battle, it was just a one-sided slaughter.
The goblins seemed to have only four words in their heads: ‘run’, ‘flee’, ‘run away’ and ‘nigero’. Roasted, choked by smoke, stabbed to death, they only crawled and crawled to escape.
It was the first time that a battle had not been so thrilling. Relative to the size.
“Ignore all the guys who ran away!”
In the meantime, a few lucky guys managed to break through the siege and escape. I missed a few like that, but that much was at a level that didn’t matter.
“Duck! Kill!”
I continued to cut and stab the goblin. The goblins could easily be killed without any resistance as they almost tipped over and fell, desperate to climb over the corpses of their own kind.
“Keehyap! You bastard! You bastard!”
ㅡBoom! Bang!
While doing so, I witnessed the unrealistic sight of Meria repeatedly striking the forehead of a fallen goblin with her shield her, but I focused on my work. It was very natural for battles to excite people.
“Whoop! Whoop!”
Sant was also skillful with a short spear and was punching holes in the bodies of the goblins. Surprisingly, even a small hole in the body of living things bleeds out and dies. Bleeding damage went into extreme damage, not dot damage.
Gibson, still only a boy, cut the goblin with a merciless hand. Bodies piled up at the entrance.
