4. I admit, I was sympathetic toward the elves
The words escaped Nell’s lips without my expectation of a response, as a sudden commotion shattered the tense atmosphere in the room!
“Bang!”
Instinctively, I positioned myself in front of Nell, shielding her slight frame, fearing for her safety. Although she was seemingly weaker, I couldn’t help but think of how the situation could escalate for her. Could it be that her mere presence in this remote inn was destined to unravel an incredible encounter in her life – something as extraordinary as a 999-level quest? It seemed implausible… yet the threat felt palpable.
But the altercation unfolding before us appeared to target someone else entirely, despite the inconvenience. The orcs’s fierce opponent was not Nell, but an unassuming elf seated next to him, a minor character in my script. The orcs, towering twice as tall, agile muscles flexed under his shiny red skin, cast a heavy shadow as he screamed coaching:
“You traitorous eared harridan! Gnarl Doom-Roar, even I – blinded by my own kindness – had just kindly fetched a fallen handkerchief for her. Accusations of lewdness! I merely brushed against her hand by accident!”
At such a confrontation, the defenseless elf couldn’t stand the intimidation any longer. With knees collapsing, she wept on the floor, arms wrapped around herself, shuddering in the aftermath, almost succumbing to fear.
An observer would hardly blame them for misunderstanding.
Nervously, I pointed at the unfolding scene and glanced at Nell.
“You see, Nell, there you have it. Nothing untoward has happened. It’s just a simple act of kindness like assisting an elderly lady across the street. Yet, due to some irrefutable biases, any event involving Pures and Austrians turns into an elf being sexually assaulted. It’s a never-ending puzzle.”
After all, Pures was still their territory, and it wouldn’t go unnoticed. Indeed, a golden-haired elf mite
It’s really not very civilized to throw punches directly at a little girl, but right now, I’m more concerned about the script!
【Grom the Hell Roar engages in a fierce battle with the shop’s fairy! O’Keefe is caught in the area damage and dies!】
What a hassle! Why is it that when others are fighting, I just want to be a bystander, I still have to take the blame and end up in a death script! But the script has already been set, and Kephiel isn’t around . I know very well: no matter how troublesome it is, I must prevent this script from happening!
“Nilu, stay hidden here and don’t move around.”
“Eh?”
First surprised, then realizing what I intended to do, Nilu grabbed my sleeve tightly. “Mr. O’Keefe, this has nothing to do with us. We don’t have to get involved…”
But I’m scared of dying!
Of course, I can’t say that outright; it would lower Miss Nilu’s opinion of me, so I have to come up with another reason.
“I’m just a bit uncomfortable watching this, and if it really escalates, our accommodation will be affected. Just wait here for me.”
After saying that to Nilu, I didn’t dare to hesitate for a moment and immediately rushed towards that fairy girl! The script wouldn’t stop just because Nilu and I were being affectionate; at that moment, the red-skinned orc had already thrown a punch at the fairy girl, about to land!
The atmosphere in the shop became even stranger, but I had no time to watch the script any longer. I immediately understood the orc’s movements from the script and acted before his fist could come down!
【Whoosh】
With a rush of wind, I grabbed the fairy girl and pulled her aside! Regardless of the odd circumstances, if a real fight broke out, Nilu and I would have to find another place to stay, and our identities couldn’t be exposed too early.
The little girl I carried away looked like she had seen a ghost, staring at me in surprise, unsure of what to pull out from her hands.
“Just stay quiet and don’t say anything.”
After advising her, I turned to look at the equally surprised orc, who seemed to be doubting his own hand that had just swung at the fairy girl, as if it were not his hand but a firewood stick.
“Big orc, this is all a misunderstanding. Can you calm down and not make a move?”
I didn’t want to get involved, but the death scripts kept appearing one after another, and I had no idea how they planned to kill me, so I was left with no choice.
My words finally got through to the orc. He and his companion stood up together, blocking my path like two mountains, glaring at me with a mix of anger and suspicion.
“Human?”
The red-skinned orc was quite aggressive, while the green-skinned one seemed to have a bit more sense.
“Stay out of it! We came here with good intentions, but we encountered this situation before even entering the city. These elven bitches are just making things up!”
So it’s a misunderstanding! Do you two really want to fight as soon as you get angry!?
I pulled the still dazed little girl beside me.
“Look, such a cute fairy girl! You want to throw punches just because she said something a bit excessive?”
Although she was sarcastic, cuteness is justice. Compared to a muscle-bound orc, I still want to help the little girl.
“But… but… cute!?”
I glanced down at her, but she was blushing and staring at me, not knowing what to think.
Hey, little sister, don’t stutter! Bring out that sharp-tongued attitude from earlier and resolve this conflict…
Don’t let me end up with a death script! I just got to Prulish, and I haven’t even offended anyone yet.
