59. After this battle, we’ll return home to get married.
I ultimately couldn’t stop Kephir from confronting Nilu to settle things, but a mysterious feeling called “premonition” told me deep down: the Kephir here now seems different from the one who should have been here.
It seems I should believe in Kephir’s power as the true protagonist; believe that the thoughts popping up in my mind are scripts written for her; believe that even if Kephir encounters a major BOSS in the script that she currently cannot handle, there will be miracles that can change the course of the story.
This might be the right way to cling to the protagonist’s leg.
The snowflakes of the Ice Fairy, the magic sword Alsas, fell around Kephir, and Ikusis returned to the side of the true “protagonist” she was meant to be, the flowing light entwining the sword. All of this signified that Kephir would no longer hesitate upon seeing Nilu, reminiscing about their past good relationship.
This is for the best, Kephir, because I believe you’ve realized without me reminding you: this former good maid of yours is now an enemy who wishes nothing more than to turn you to ashes!
Looking on, Kephir’s appearance didn’t seem to surprise Nilu much; all that was in her eyes was a hint of regret for not being able to ask me for answers just now. Immediately following, dangerous words accompanied Nilu’s expectant gaze.
“Mr. Oujilide, though it’s a bit unexpected, this is quite good, as it allows me to prove my point to you more directly.”
A flame seemed to ignite in her eyes; the flower crown atop her head glimmered with an eerie purple light; the robe she wore a ghostly green glow; the sword, wreathed in thick black smoke, was reignited in her hand…
Finally, the moment Nilu’s gaze reluctantly left me, it instantly turned ferocious, and she let out an excited laugh directed at Kephir.
“Ke·fi·er!”
In the clash of light and shadow, the two figures collided in an instant!
In the script, the protagonist’s strength always aligns closely with that of the BOSS! It’s the same now! Kephir has always been a prodigy, possessing a dual seven-tier strength at a young age that others might not achieve in two lifetimes, but. ..Nilu is no different!
Their strengths are equal, but due to Kephir’s upgraded script being interfered with by Nilu, the so-called “treasure” on Nilu’s side is a bit more! Fortunately, Nilu at this moment either didn’t notice or simply wanted to trouble Kephir, and for a time, the clash of blades between the two women, the intertwining of light and dark, seemed evenly matched!
“Nilu… you’ve merely gained power; even if you’re jealous of me now, I will not back down!”
In response to Kephir’s “assertion of dominance,” Nilu suddenly increased her strength, pushing Kephir back with sheer brute force. The black blade in her hand fell, and the rising black mist seemed ready to swallow everything!
“This is where you don’t deserve him! Kephir! You have no awareness of being protected, not a shred of return; you’ve accomplished nothing and… you simply don’t deserve his attention—only I am worthy of him!”
“!”
A vast black mist surged forth, causing Kephir to take a step back, while it made me realize: Nilu had begun to wield the power of the fairies! I could not… continue to be a mere commentator and bystander! From the very beginning, I had been on Kephir’s side!
【The power of the Dark Fairy Ignis is restrained by the Light Fairy Ikusis.】
“Kephir! Get that fool Ikusis moving!”
The script’s content transformed into a “prophecy” as it was spoken, and without hesitation, Kephir complied. In an instant, the magic sword in her hand blazed with light! Ikusis finally revealed her worth beyond being a fool!
“Kephir, trust in the Holy Light, control your anger… your magic. Mere black magic is nothing to worry about!”
There was no need to understand Ikusis’s role; in the protagonist’s script, obtaining the treasure meant using it—this was the essence of the story!
Similarly, Kephir immediately harnessed the power granted by Ikusis. The magic sword Alsas seemed to transform into a curry stick like Saber’s, and as she swung it down, the light dispelled the encroaching black mist.
But… it wasn’t over yet! The script didn’t write it that way!
【Nilu kills Kephir!】
The death script was still in play, which meant…
“Kephir! Watch out for Nilu’s appearance!”
No sooner had the words left my mouth than Nilu emerged from the shadows that were about to be dispelled, floating in mid-air. The sword in her hand transformed into a longbow, absorbing the purple magic emanating from the crown above her head, with an arrow aimed directly at Kephir’s chest!
“See, Kephir! This is how it always is! Everything you do is just using his power; you don’t deserve him at all!”
The arrow shot forth, sprouting a pair of fiery wings, howling as it rushed toward her. However, my earlier warning was not without merit; for Kephir, that brief moment of reaction was enough for her to respond!
Kephir raised Alsas before her, forming a barrier of solid ice. My concern was that, while it held against the nearly overwhelming impact, that was not all that was coming!
As Nilu descended, she cleaved through the precarious ice, and with that brief moment of time, Kephir, having finally escaped after rolling a few times, clumsily got back on her feet! Meanwhile, I once again caught sight of the dangerous script!
【Kephir is killed by Nilu due to insufficient strength!】
The descriptions of Kephir’s death script grew increasingly perilous, making me realize: this was likely the scene about to unfold! Was it too late to confront Nilu with words!? I didn’t know, nor did I want to think that way, because from the moment Kephir decided to trust me as the “protagonist,” I too decided to believe in her power!
The power to change any part of the script!
“Just give up, miss. You have nothing, you can do nothing.”
Nilu waved her hand, and the ground where Kephir had barely escaped instantly cracked and sank! With Kephir now on the defensive, she found herself completely unable to counterattack!
“The only thing about you that I can still feel sympathy for is your identity. Admit that you don’t deserve him and give up—don’t let my last shred of positive regard for you disappear, okay?”
In the next moment, Kephir once again evaded the unseen chaotic force, but this time luck was not on her side, as she stumbled and fell beside me.
However… an opportunity arose from this, as Nilu’s raised hand suddenly halted, and it was in that fleeting moment that I finally decided to tell Kephir of my belief in her!
“Kephir, you…”
“I’m fine…”
What met my words was Kephir’s defiant face; she probably didn’t want to let Nilu’s words about “only relying on me” come true. So… I decided not to play the role of a human shield or pull any emotional tricks on Nilu— no need for such dirty, scummy tactics.
Let’s try a different approach!
“I know you’re fine, so… after we win, once the summit is over, let’s get married!”
Uh… wait, why does that sound a bit… off!?
Done! Isn’t this just one of those classic death flags!?
But it seems I can’t change my words now, because… the Kefier in front of me has already widened her eyes, as if… she has gained immense motivation.
【Kefier is unwilling to give up!】
