66.5. Look, a meteor!
It was an utterly ordinary night on the continent, with a bright moon and sparse stars, dim and unremarkable. In the deep of night, people had long since drifted into slumber, and everything seemed no different from the day before, ready to welcome yet another mundane day in their dreams.
Even if suddenly awakened by an energetic child who couldn’t sleep and was fidgeting…
“Daddy! Mommy! A strange-colored meteor fell far away!”
They would quickly be scolded!
“Shut up and go to sleep! Do you want to eat a leather belt for dinner!?”
Children were such a hassle; hadn’t they ever seen a meteor!?
Indeed, a dark purple meteor had fallen in a remote and quiet noble territory of the Great Ying Empire.
This caused a golden-haired girl, sitting by the bed with a high-stemmed glass in hand, gazing at the crescent moon outside the bright window, to slowly open her eyes. The two crescents in her gaze flickered—was this the reflection of the moonlight outside, or was it the girl herself?
Soon, a sound came from outside the room; after a barely audible “click” of the door opening, silence fell again. A maid hurried in, her footsteps so light that they left no trace.
Then, looking at the girl bathed in the cold moonlight, she spoke softly.
“Your Majesty, there has just been…”
“A suspicious magical object that fell nearby, right? No need to worry about it.”
There was not a trace of concern in the girl’s voice, but that was merely a pretense to reassure her subordinates. The message conveyed by that “purple meteor” had left her troubled, knowing that her carefree life might soon come to an end.
That was all.
Her gaze then fell upon the face of the maid who had entered, her eyes shimmering with a cold, luminous crescent.
“How is the situation in the imperial capital lately?”
“There hasn’t been much…”
There was nothing unusual. The maid had intended to respond in a proper manner, but before she could even finish her sentence, the young girl had already moved on to the next topic.
“Have the disturbances regarding ‘Euclid’ been resolved?”
“Re…”
“Very good.”
Once again, her words were interrupted, yet the maid did not feel annoyed by it. As a servant, she certainly could not voice too many opinions to her master, and she had grown accustomed to such matters.
Her previous response was not out of a genuine desire to answer, but rather an instinctive reaction brought on by her professional ethics.
After all, answering anything was just a superfluous act.
“However, things are going to get a bit busier soon.”
Retracting her gaze, the girl lifted her wine glass again. “Go tell ‘her’ to prepare for some ‘guests’ for me.”
Then, after the maid left in response, she turned her gaze back out the window, leaning slightly against the chair’s back, a disdainful smile playing on her lips as she murmured to herself.
“Such audacity, my master. Do you wish to experience it once more?”
Meanwhile, on the other side.
In contrast to this “purple meteor,” another crimson meteor had already fallen toward a more distant place, the mysterious realm of the fairies—the Kingdom of Prussia.
Having just finished a busy day’s work, King Adelf of the Kingdom of Prussia, who was preparing to sleep, suddenly halted, stood in silence for a moment, then turned and exited the room!
The palace of the Kingdom of Prussia had no night; at this hour, fairies were still on duty and working. As Adelf stepped out, she encountered the fairy Mel, who had come looking for her.
“Your Majesty Adelf, a mysterious red object resembling a meteor has just fallen near our palace! Given that it broke through the defense net, it should be unrelated to magical attacks, but we can’t find any trace of it; it simply vanished !”
“Perhaps it was just a meteor passing by, creating an illusion for you? There’s no need to worry about it.”
“But…”
“I said there’s no need to worry! Instead of wasting time on this, you should rest! Is your relaxation time meant for discussing such gossip!?”
After firmly dismissing Mel, Adelf walked alone through the long corridors of the palace, descending to the “Strategic Reserve Room” located underground. Finally, she stopped in front of a door leading deeper, accessible only to the king of Prussia.
“I am Adelf; I need to see you.”
Summoning a virtual “keyboard” with a wave of her hand, she pressed on it for a while, and the door automatically slid open. Adelf stepped forward, quickly making her way down!
At the end of the corridor was a single room, prepared for an unknown occupant. Adelf did not enter but leaned against the door.
The conversation clearly indicated the presence of someone within the dark room.
“What does the ‘red one’ flying over just now signify?”
“Nilou is ‘warning’ us.”
The voice that came from within was ethereal, almost unreal, as if it did not exist.
“Then, are there any other alerts?”
“…The Rosian Empire, the Great Yeng Empire, and… Austro-Hungary.”
In the next moment, Letty had already donned her hat and swiftly departed.
—
“I understand. I’ll have someone look into it. There’s no need for you to take risks right now.”
Then, as she walked up the stairs, she muttered a complaint.
“But… the Austro-Hungarians have it too. I really don’t want to go to those filthy orc pigsties.”
Just moments ago, Adéle had indeed seen a similar green meteor streaking towards the Austro-Hungarian tribe, not far from the Kingdom of Plouce.
This strange scene naturally started led Gorlom and Gu Erdan, who were busy eating chicken breast and swallowing egg yolks!
“My dear mother! Brother Gu Erdan! Did you see that just now!? Was that a meteor coming down!?”
“Do you really need to ask!?”
Gu Erdan slapped Gorlom on the forehead, then hurriedly pushed him past to rush to the window and look up!
“That meteor seems a bit off! It was clearly flying towards the Great Chief! What if it crushes the Great Chief… Ugh, ugh, ugh!”
Gu Erdan quickly shut his mouth. The orcs of the Austro-Hungarian tribe were not the kind of beasts that were merely misled by elves; they were highly educated creatures who followed their instincts.
As a high-ranking orc warrior who had learned various basic knowledge and frequented cultural venues, Gu Erdan knew well: a meteor is an external phenomenon, and if it really fell, it would cause a tremendous explosion.
We must hurry to save the Great Chief!
Just as Gu Erdan was thinking this, Gorlom ran over to cause more trouble.
“Wait, Brother Gu Erdan, that meteor… is gone?”
“What!? How is that possible!”
Gu Erdan looked incredulously, but indeed… that green light had suddenly vanished into the distance. Could it be that the elf b*tches next door had come up with some new weapon and were experimenting on the Austro-Hungarian tribe!?
“Anyway, let’s hurry to the Great Chief!”
Gu Erdan hurriedly dragged Gorlom out.
