7. Orc Brothers!
Finally, after extinguishing Adéfu’s thoughts that would lead her down a path of misunderstanding, my plan received her agreement and support—she and the people of the Austro-Hungarian tribe had some matters they couldn’t disclose to the elves due to their identities, so it would be up to me and Ke Fei’er, as uninvolved humans, to investigate and resolve this “daily conflict” between the elves and orcs.
As for finding the “fairies” in the Kingdom of Prulus, I’ll leave that for later. I need to show some results first to encourage Adéfu, who seems to have some reservations. Besides, I’m working with Ke Fei’er, the true protagonist of this script is right beside me, so what do I have to fear from a death script?
Afterward, under Adéfu’s secret arrangements, Ke Fei’er and I did not linger and immediately set off to the Kingdom of Austro-Hungary, which stands in stark contrast to the elves’ Kingdom of Prulus, a place that is quite “special” compared to other kingdoms—generally referred to as the “orcs.”
In the Austro-Hungarian tribe, the orcs are primarily those towering, muscular types with two tusks, the kind that could scare an elf into submission with just a glance—high-ranking orcs. As for those with tails and ears—subhumans—their status in the Austro-Hungarian tribe is generally that of servants and laborers. After all, the Austro-Hungarian tribe reveres strength and has a strict hierarchy, so subhumans with animal ears and weak physiques naturally hold no status.
Originally, it would have been quite difficult for Ke Fei’er and me to even step foot in such a place, but fortunately, my previous encounters in the elves’ Kingdom of Prulus provided me with a bit of an advantage—namely, these two high-ranking orc brothers, one red and one green, who could be considered a dynamic duo.
“Big Brother!”
As Ke Fei’er and I secretly arrived at the central area of the orc tribe, the two of them rushed over to greet us, calling out to me without any regard for discretion, drawing the attention of other passing orcs.
“Could you be a bit more mindful of your impact? I said we were coming quietly.”
I looked helplessly at the pair of orc brothers.
The high-ranking orc brothers, the green-skinned Guldun and the red-skinned Gelurom, although they looked like they could eat someone alive, exuding an aura that could leave several elven ladies exhausted in a single night, were essentially earnest, kind-hearted, and just orcs.
After all the help I had given them in the Kingdom of Prulus, I had earned their respect, and this time, thanks to Gelurom and Guldun’s decent standing in the Austro-Hungarian tribe, Ke Fei’er and I were able to arrive here smoothly.
Realizing I wasn’t alone, Gelurom’s gaze naturally shifted to Ke Fei’er, and he was about to speak his mind…
“Big sis…”
But Guldun swiftly slapped his mouth shut. Unlike Gelurom, Guldun was the “brainy type” among the brothers; he clearly understood that calling Ke Fei’er “big sis” was quite impolite, so he silenced Gelurom and changed his address.
“Big Sis!”
I immediately tightened my grip on Kefier’s hand, afraid that Long Ao Tian, standing next to me, would kick Gu Er Dan.
Never mind, Kefier, it’s not worth it. Maybe their “Big Sis” is just a term of endearment, like “my wife.” Besides, they’re our “tour guides” this time, so let’s just go along with whatever they say.
To prevent these two beastmen from blurting out something even more outrageous, I quickly explained our purpose to them.
“We’re here about the elf matter. Lately, it seems like you’re stirring up trouble and preparing for war. Is there something you’re not telling us?”
The two beastmen, one red and one green, exchanged a glance.
I had already informed them of our purpose when we met, so I’m sure they were prepared. Indeed, the next moment, Gou Luo Mu beckoned us to come closer, and Gu Er Dan led us to the palace of the Great Chieftain, the highest authority in the Auwen tribe, equivalent to a king in other kingdoms.
Regarding the conflict with the elves, these two beastmen finally became serious and solemn, their demeanor and physique making them appear quite “dangerous.” No wonder the elves were intimidated when the beastmen offered to “help” them.
“Big Brother, let’s talk while we walk. It’s fortunate that you arrived at this time. Gou Luo Mu and I were just about to see the Great Chieftain again regarding this matter.”
Again… I wouldn’t miss those words, especially since the script had already hinted at the reason.
[Gou Luo Mu and Gu Er Dan had attempted to meet with the Great Chieftain of the Auwen tribe but were unsuccessful.]
Lately, the conflict with the elves had even led to the elves sending “spies” to the Auwen tribe. At this point, the Great Chieftain, the mysterious leader of the Auwen tribe, had yet to make an appearance.
“In fact, we have seen some figures lurking around our palace at night, fleeing quickly, and disappearing into the territory of the elven maidens.”
“When we tried to catch them, the elven maidens opened fire on us. No matter what we beastmen warriors said, they wouldn’t listen, and we had to return in defeat. This has happened multiple times, and the elven maidens seem to think we’re trying to invade them. Last time, they even set up a machine gun that could fire for tens of seconds non-stop.”
“As a result, the situation has escalated, and the Great Chieftain still hasn’t appeared. Even though we find it strange, the other high-ranking beastmen and elders in our tribe are shouting that there must be a traitor among us who’s collaborating with the elven maidens. They think the best solution is to attack the elves and teach them a lesson.”
After listening to Gu Er Dan’s explanation, I furrowed my brow.
Although the beastmen and elves have different accounts of the events, the basic facts are consistent: there have been frequent sightings of figures lurking between the two tribes, with the beastmen believing the elves have developed a spy network and the elves thinking the beastmen are slandering them.
However, there’s a severe misunderstanding here, one that I, as a ordinary human, can see.
It’s simple.
“I think this is a misunderstanding, Gou Luo Mu, Gu Er Dan… I’ll ask you one question: setting aside the ‘spy’s’ speed, what’s their identity? Are you saying that the Auwen tribe only has beastmen like you? What if it’s just a ordinary wild animal or… a demihuman? Are you just overthinking this?”
I couldn’t reveal that Adair had contact with the beastmen. I’m here to resolve the conflict, not stir up trouble, so I’ll keep that to myself.
“Ah… Ah, yes!”
Gou Luo Mu slapped his forehead, suddenly enlightened. “I initially thought it was one of our noble beastmen warriors betraying our honor!”
No wonder the elves were able to deceive you so easily.
As for me, my previous words were meant for the two beastmen, but also for myself. This series of events suggests that Adair has been frequently meeting with someone from the Auwen tribe.
What secrets are behind this, and why did Adair refuse to reveal the other party’s identity, even after agreeing to my help?
