15. Seizing the Opportunity
This nun, Urasiru, must have deliberately made her request so vague. Could it be that this emotionless, expressionless nun is, at her core, someone who enjoys watching the fun? I had no chance to find out.
After all: although I misunderstood Urasiru’s request, perhaps it was due to my self-control, or maybe… simply because I was a coward, Kephiel and I inadvertently completed the so-called “first request of the Goddess of Order.” We won’t mention the bodily fluid exchange; we did confirm each other’s feelings quite thoroughly. So, this request should be considered passed.
Having learned from past experiences, I thought to myself that no matter how strange the nun’s requests might be in the future, she could never trick me again! However, when she arrived the next day, she presented a second request—one I never expected!
“The second request before receiving the blessing is that the ‘Goddess of Order’ wishes to test and cultivate your patience and verify your feelings for each other. Therefore, starting today, until the day of your blessing ceremony…”
Pausing for a moment, Urasiru turned to Kephiel and made a gesture of invitation, saying, “You two need to temporarily live apart, and in principle, you are not allowed to meet in the near future. Miss Kephiel, please follow me to another residence in the church.”
Unlike the previous wordplay, this second request is simple yet difficult. It’s probably akin to the ancient practice I remember, where couples would “separate” for a time before marriage to test each other’s loyalty and patience, while also nurturing the idea that “absence makes the heart grow fonder.”
Miss Urasiru, the games your church plays for blessings are quite strange! However, now that it has come to this, there’s no reason to back down; besides, Kephiel herself has great faith in me and has no concerns or objections about this matter. In the script, Urasiru’s attitude and actions show little difference, and all these factors left me with no reason to oppose. I simply watched as Kephiel packed her simple luggage, then left under Urasiru’s words of “If you need anything, I can relay it or take care of it for you.”
Rest assured, Miss Nun, even if I truly have any “needs,” I absolutely won’t let you “take care of it”! However, I must admit that such a request is indeed a test because…
In just half a day, after lunch, my mind was already filled with thoughts of Kephiel’s current situation. As I walked around anxiously, I found myself wanting to check the script to see what Kephiel was doing.
But just as the thought emerged, I shook my head to stop myself. After all, the intention of their “test” is to make me and Kephiel endure the restlessness of not seeing each other. If I check the script to see Kephiel’s status now, wouldn’t that be cheating? It has nothing to do with the church; if Kephiel found out, she surely wouldn’t be pleased.
In my distress, I didn’t notice the figure that suddenly appeared behind me. Ah, come to think of it, even though Kephiel has temporarily left, I’m not alone here; there’s still a “maid” present.
“Mr. Oujilide, that woman won’t have any problems, you know~”
Quietly, Nilu had come to my side. Standing half a step behind me, it seemed she was deliberately emphasizing her slightly lower status as a maid. Clearly, given her strength, it wouldn’t be surprising if she could crush me with her pinky finger.
“Within the church, at least on the surface, there are no enemies threatening us. While you were out completing the trial yesterday, I did some investigation. So, you don’t need to worry excessively and waste your energy.”
Nilu’s response surprised me because: Kephiel has already left! Yet, Nilu’s words sounded too “normal.”
I blinked and looked at Nilu: “…You didn’t directly criticize Kephiel, did you?”
I had thought Nilu would seize this opportunity to spare no effort in belittling Kephiel in front of me.
“Do you find my impression of you somewhat strange?”
Nilu seemed displeased. “Although I do have quite a few opinions about that woman, thinking she shamelessly exploits your power, I wouldn’t be so bored as to share those thoughts with you like taking out the trash, just to consider your feelings.”
…Haven’t you already exposed yourself?
“Moreover, having an outsider relay messages does carry some risk. If you truly have something you want to tell her, I can convey it for you.”
But Nilu, you wouldn’t be happy about it, would you?
Next time you speak, you can say it all; after all, your unwillingness is clearly written on your face.
I… didn’t know how to respond. Although I was very aware that this maid, whose gaze would always fall solely on me, is the most dangerous “final boss” in the script, everything she was doing now left me struggling before I could give my heartfelt response.
“Thank you.”
[Nilu did not lie.]
Because the script has already given me the answer.
The maid beside me, in the next moment, seemed to brighten her gaze, transforming into a soft light as clear as water.
“Indeed, you… would never harm me.”
“That’s only because even if I wanted to harm you, I wouldn’t stand a chance, right?”
Don’t make the cold truth sound as if it has taken on a different meaning.
“No, Mr. O’Keefe, it’s just like a feeling that has blossomed from deep within me, making me believe that regardless of your strength, regardless of whether I possess any power, you would never harm me. It’s almost as if… there’s a feeling and connection that has existed deep in my heart for a long time, binding us together…”
That’s just because of your yandere personality, which makes you imagine such a scenario, right…?
But a connection from the depths of the heart? It’s strange to say, regardless of strength, I’ve realized: why is it that until now, I truly… never thought of “killing” Nilu? Clearly, when dealing with enemies in the script, I’ve never hesitated to use underhanded, sinister means.
As if she had sensed my hesitation, Nilu suddenly stepped forward.
“Mr. O’Keefe, you… must be curious about such thoughts, right? Look, such a rare opportunity, the troublesome woman has already left, don’t you… want to ‘explore’ with me?”
“Nilu.”
My symbolic reprimand had no effect, and in the next moment, Nilu waved her hand.
The fairies around her transformed into colorful specks of light, as if deliberately creating a space where no one would disturb us!
“You can ‘see’ this, right? This time, I didn’t intend to harm any fairies; I simply came to follow you. After all, rather than waiting for a long time at Rodmar, enduring the boredom of material things, I would rather be by your side as your maid and accompany you.”
Then, her hand gently brushed against my chest.
“Now, I finally have the chance to express to you, and I won’t hide it: this ‘test’ is such a perfect opportunity for me, allowing me to finally, carefully… monopolize your gaze.”
“Until you ask me to leave…”
“I won’t stop…”
