74. There’s a Mole, Terminate the Deal
Perspective of Ilushir.
In the United Kingdom of Meri, the measure of a bounty hunter’s qualification and excellence lies in their ability to complete a commission without letting personal feelings or biases interfere. After all, sometimes today’s employer may become tomorrow’s enemy.
No one would dare to criticize such traitorous behavior, akin to a weather vane, because that is the nature of the bounty hunter’s profession: to accept commissions, fulfill tasks, and not concern themselves with allegiances or emotions, nor remember the face of their employer the next day.
For Ilushir, this was the perfect life.
This time, however, the commission merely involved her two sisters, who had come to the kingdom. That was all. Although this task violated the principle of being completed within a day, the existence of a written contract made Ilushir feel that a little stretching of the rules was acceptable.
Because, with the kind of “telepathic” connection she shared with her sisters, finding them quickly in the kingdom was not a difficult task. So, after leisurely enjoying a few days of paid leave, Ilushir, now free from anyone “watching her,” finally slipped out one night.
At this moment, in a corner outside the bustling capital of the United Kingdom of Meri.
As Ilushir opened a window of a tall building, she couldn’t help but furrow her brow upon seeing two figures.
In her line of sight, under the dim light, sat a nun-like elf in deep meditation, while beside her, another elf, dressed like a maid, yawned lazily.
The moment she opened the window, they should have noticed her, yet they showed no reaction at all. Sigh~ Had it really been so long since they last met that her sisters had grown too indifferent to speak to their younger sibling?
“Urasiru, Adreil, my sisters.”
Unable to contain herself, Ilushir climbed through the window. “After such a long time apart, isn’t your attitude towards your sister a bit too cold and ordinary?”
The only response was the maid elf letting out a yawn.
“Since I already knew it was you who came, greeting each other affectionately felt like a hassle.”
However, halfway through her words, Ludovik suddenly sat up in surprise.
“By the way, how did you know who I am? I’m clearly in the form of Ludovik right now!”
“Eh? Ah~ Haha~” Ilushir clapped her forehead, “It must be because my senses are sharper, right, sister?”
“Not long after I sensed your return to this kingdom, I came looking for you. However, I truly don’t want to waste time reminiscing; I’m here for something else.”
Her smile faded, and Ilushir’s expression was as cold as her words.
“I’ve found the ‘bloodline.’ Without a doubt, it’s some ‘hybrid species’ that managed to escape during that chaotic scene before, but it can still be considered a legitimate ‘bloodline.’”
In the next moment, Urasiru, who had been sitting quietly with her eyes closed, opened them. Her voice was calm as water, showing no excitement upon hearing the word “bloodline.”
“According to the will of order, the descendants of the filthy bloodline must be eradicated. Yet you’ve found it only to inform us. So, what do you want, Ilushir?”
“……” After a moment of silence, Ilushir laughed, “It’s a bit difficult for me to handle this alone, so… I’d like to ask my sisters to join me in finding this ‘bloodline’ and then eliminating it.”
She paused before continuing, “Otherwise, it could get a bit troublesome~ There are some bothersome fairies around, and whatever I do will attract their attention~ If my sisters are willing to come with me, then no matter what obstacles we encounter, they won’t stop us from eradicating the bloodline, right?”
As her words fell, silence descended.
However, it was not the response of the two elven saints that broke the tranquility of the room, but rather… Ludwig’s exaggerated laughter.
“Hahahahaha! Sister~ You always manage to come up with something new for us~ Did you encounter something good today~”
“Today?” Ilushir scratched her head, “Nothing special~ I just waited for nightfall like usual, and then found a time to meet you.”
“Then why do you…”
Ludwig wanted to say something more, but his words were interrupted by Urasiru the next moment.
“Enough, Ludwig. We don’t need to know so much.”
“Hmm~ True, anyway, the end result is the same. Asking just feels like such a hassle~”
Then, Ludwig yawned again, no longer paying attention to Ilushir, while Urasiru spoke up.
“Since it’s a ‘bloodline,’ then it is indeed my duty to pass judgment on this sinful descendant. So, sister, on the next full moon night, you will lead us to find it.”
When Urasiru looked up again, all that remained by the window was the curtain fluttering in the wind; Ilushir’s figure had long since vanished.
“Is it alright? Her way of speaking…”
“……”
“Just the thought of all the troublesome things I’ll have to deal with afterward makes me not want to agree to her request today.”
“It doesn’t matter. No matter how the content changes, as long as we can judge the filthy bloodlines that survive on this filthy land, we won’t step onto this ground in vain.”
Urasiru calmly responded to Ludwig’s strange question.
“As for the method and the existence of Ilushir, regardless of how things change, the final outcome will remain unchanged. We need not worry about the ‘process.’”
Because we are all servants of the great goddess, representing the will of order. No matter how our thoughts may waver, we will ultimately return to the original starting point. In the name of order, we shall judge those who harbor disloyalty, or the bloodlines of sin.
“We are the ‘sharp blades,’ the ‘will.’ Those who lose faith and respect, who only play with schemes and tricks, will ultimately face the judgment of order for their pitiful actions.”
“Even if it’s not me, not you… it will still be ‘her.’”
“Pretty much~”
Ludwig, lying on the sofa, yawned repeatedly. “To eliminate bloodlines and targets in such a filthy place, ah~ finally, I can encounter something that doesn’t feel so troublesome. Especially Kfeir, I’m super curious about how far she’s come. The more powerful the force that threatens my life, the more pleasant I feel when taking it away~”
Then, he turned over and closed his eyes.
“Don’t let us down, you three…”
