15. Mysterious Whispers (Monthly Ticket Request at the Start of the Month~)
In the elven kingdom of Rodland, after the crisis event, the saintess Izalis unexpectedly extended an “invitation” to me. Upon realizing the underlying plot, I decided to accept it because… this elven saintess seemed to also “hope that I would accept.” The best evidence of this was that after Nilu had “commanded” all the elven elders present at the time, in order to cover up their memories, the necessary “command content” was all tacitly completed by Izalis for us.
Worried that too many words might lead to mistakes, we didn’t “command” too much; we simply made the elven elders forget their “suspicion of our identities” and made them aware that “we have been invited by the saintess to protect her.” That was all. This not only helped avoid the elders gradually realizing that their memories had discrepancies but also allowed them to act as originally planned, in order to… draw in what I truly anticipated, the “main storyline” of the script.
After this command, our next plans became quite clear: soon, under Izalis’s arrangement, we became the chosen protectors of this elven saintess.
A few days later, at this moment.
When I met with Kefir and Nilu again alongside Izalis, our identities had changed drastically from before. Kefir and Nilu’s maid identities remained the same, but I had to don an outfit that had nothing to do with me—armor worn by the elven warriors known as the White Knights who patrol the royal city of Roland, transforming me into a “Lord Knight.”
The equipment of the royal city’s elven warriors was certainly light and comfortable, but for someone like me, who had never worn armor and was merely a “backline healer,” it felt like being strapped with a dozen heavy iron plates, leaving me sore all over.
Suppressing my complaints, I looked over, and this time, there were no more disturbances from the elven elders around Izalis. It seemed those old geezers had gone off to discuss other ways to drive us away. And this was also a signal conveyed to me by this elven saintess.
“It seems it doesn’t fit at all, Lord Oghild.”
It’s easy to say, but the elven girl sitting in the chair rested her chin on her hand, observing me with great interest. This time, the elven elders were absent, and Izalis seemed to appear more “casual.”
“Since you know, then don’t force the title of ‘knight’ upon me.”
I sighed, but… this was a rare opportunity to get closer to the Kingdom of Rodlan. I could endure the discomfort of this outfit. After all, whether it was coincidence or the “favorable fortune” scripted for me, this elven saintess, Izalis, in a certain sense, could already be considered an ally on our side.
So, as her gaze shifted from me to Kiefer and Nilu behind me, I no longer concealed our relationship from Izalis.
“There’s no need to keep looking back and overthinking, Saintess. At this point, it’s fine for me to tell you. Kiefer and Nilu’s identities as maids are merely disguises for us to operate here; in reality, K—”
I glanced at Kiefer and cautiously continued.
“Uh, they are my wives.”
I didn’t need to elaborate on the relationship between Kiefer, Nilu, and me. Saying too much would only complicate matters and create future troubles, so I decided to keep it simple—both are my wings. Fortunately, my dear wife was in a good mood today; I shot her a glance before saying it, and Kiefer would absolutely not argue with Nilu on the matter of “unity against the outside.”
As soon as I finished speaking, Kiefer stepped forward.
“Saintess, it might sound strange, but he’s not wrong; I’m Wife Number One.”
Nilu quickly followed, “I’m Number Two~”
“…”
The atmosphere suddenly felt a bit odd, but thankfully… facing Kiefer and Nilu, who had finally been able to show their “demonstration” after holding back for days, Izalis didn’t seem to mind much.
Rather than my “scoundrel problem” of having two wives, this elven saintess seemed more concerned about me.
“From the moment I first laid eyes on you, I sensed the hostility emanating from them. Lord Ouglid, you need not worry about whether I will take issue with this; having multiple wives is not uncommon even in the Kingdom of Rodlan.”
As she spoke, Izalis stood up, her magic visualized into neon threads that supported her body, lifting her off the ground. Judging by the fact that she wasn’t even wearing shoes, it seemed this elven saintess had long been accustomed to floating instead of walking.
The brilliant neon was hidden among her waterfall-like white hair, making her appear truly “sacred” for a moment.
“Rather than your explanation, I’m more curious about what truly feels ‘ill-fitting’ for you. For instance… the fairy currently disguising your body—after she leaves, what will your true form be? Would you mind telling me now?”
【Izalis wants to know Ouglid’s identity.】
The girl’s words came with the appearance of the script, simple and pure in content. Moreover… Izalis had indeed chosen to invite me based on the understanding that “I was in disguise.” Given the circumstances, it would only be appropriate to reciprocate; I had no reason to refuse her request here.
“Zelus, let’s drop the disguise for now.”
I slowly spoke, and at the same time, the ever-changing fairy Zelus peeled away her disguise from me, Kephiel, and Nilu. During the moment I felt that “I could finally show my true self for a while,” I watched as Izalis’s gaze towards me gradually shifted to one of surprise.
“We came from… the kingdom to the west.”
Revealing my identity was already enough; I had no intention of mentioning the whole “crossing over” thing.
“As for our purpose, of course, there is one, but the reason I intervened to save you that day was purely due to coincidence and unexpected circumstances, as well as the fact that I had the ability at that time.”
I wanted to explain properly, but…
No matter how I looked at it, the expression on the girl’s face suggested she hadn’t heard a single word, or rather, she had only caught half of it…
“No, this is ‘fate.’”
Izalis did what she did best: rambling on about the mystical. But today, there were no supporting characters around, and I didn’t want to continue indulging her in poetic exchanges, only to end up getting pinched by my wife.
In the next moment, Izalis suddenly “snapped back” to reality, a bit flustered as she withdrew her gaze from me. “That’s enough, Lord Oquilid. You can disguise yourself again to avoid exposure. Also… you’re absolutely right; this is a kingdom of white-haired elves, so please do not reveal your true self to unfamiliar elves in any situation.”
“Thank you.”
I was certainly grateful for the understanding of the elf before me, but I never expected: even though Kephiel and Nilu had already made their relationship with me so “obvious” to Izalis, this elf saint…
Hadn’t paid any attention at all!
“No need, because I am aware of your identity, and I hope you can start ‘protecting me.’”
Just as I was about to have Zelus disguise our group again, Izalis floated directly in front of me, cradling my hands in hers, completely ignoring the astonishment from Kephiel and Nilu, murmuring to herself.
“Don’t you feel that there is a kind of ‘connection’ between us? This is the ‘order’ that has granted us the fate of meeting…”
“Huh?”
The girl’s actions genuinely startled me!
Am I sure I didn’t accidentally swap scripts with some harem story filled with romantic entanglements?
