50. The Unassuming Third Princess
That night, as the previous script indicated, it was clear we wouldn’t encounter any “pursuers,” yet I spent it in sheer peril.
There was no helping it; after all, today had brought about the event of “I once again descended like a divine hero to save Izalis.” It seemed that Izalis herself had already taken me for a “very ugly prince charming,” and even during the night watch, despite Kephir and Nilu being right beside me, I could still feel that eager gaze from the elf.
Having passed through the night without incident, rather than entangling ourselves in Izalis’s identity and her attitude towards me in the script, what we needed to determine now was: what lay ahead. Fortunately, Izalis didn’t merely have a “I want to devour you” demeanor; she quickly shared her plans for the future, which would serve as our destination.
This was: the satellite town belonging to the Rodland Kingdom, where Her Highness Princess Ilushir, the third princess, resided. Izalis chose this place not only because, unless we wandered the world, we had nowhere else to go, but also for more important reasons.
After that, we dared not pause, seizing every moment while everything around still appeared calm, and arrived at the town belonging to the elven third princess.
At this moment, within the town.
“Ladies, this is the town belonging to the smallest Princess Ilushir of the Rodland Kingdom.”
Disguised and walking, Izalis, doing her best to conceal her identity, clung to my arm and reminded us.
Looking around, after all, this was also part of the territory of the Rodland Kingdom, home to the white-haired elves in this era. Everything around, whether in style or in the populace, showed no significant change compared to the other two cities. If there was any difference to speak of, it would be the atmosphere: I couldn’t tell if it was just my impression, but the atmosphere here felt more peaceful compared to the main city of the Rodland Kingdom, and there weren’t as many of the white-haired elves’ signature white knights on the streets.
As if she had perfectly timed her response, the next moment, Izalis softly addressed the doubts in my heart.
“Lord Oqulid, my intention to hide here for a while is not out of desperation. First, the most dangerous place is often the safest. By the time our pursuers realize we haven’t fled to the desolate outskirts of the city, but rather come here, it will take some time. Secondly… in fact, the third princess managing this town, Princess Ilushir, is not as favored by her two elder sisters as one might think.”
Izalis’s reminder also brought to mind my earlier encounter with Ilushir, the white-haired elf who claimed to be a “bounty hunter.” At least in the absence of a death script, she was far easier to communicate with than her two elven saintess sisters. However, she had the peculiar trait of “only being able to remember things for a day,” and with the exposure of this trait, she had also cast a death script upon me.
Though I was puzzled as to why she could remember this detail, I had no other strategy and could only categorize her as an “enemy.” Moreover, upon returning to “this era,” I realized that the relationship among the three elven sisters seemed to be growing increasingly complex.
“Not favored… what do you mean by that?”
Izalis responded with a somewhat complicated smile: “There’s no strange reason behind it; it’s simply that her two sisters are exceptionally talented, making this princess, who only performs at an ordinary ‘good’ level, less noticeable. A good child will always be overshadowed by the brilliance of a ‘genius’—it’s just that simple.”
I see, it’s just like my current situation, where the excellence of the two big shots beside me has inadvertently elevated my own “standing.”
“This Princess Ilushir rarely participates in important matters of the Rodland Kingdom, so she should still be unaware of what has happened previously, and that’s also why I chose to come here.”
Having said that, the elf beside me glanced sideways and winked at me.
It seemed to express her slight sense of pride at the moment, perhaps more like a way to show off and prove: she’s not just a naive sweetie.
And indeed, the situation was much as Izalis described: now that we had arrived here, although the two elven princesses had grasped Izalis’s true identity, they would certainly not dare to make a grand show of searching for her, given the circumstances and Izalis’s status as a saintess among the elves.
Having abandoned the potentially chaotic approach, the most likely course of action for them would be to send a few people to search for her, looking for an opportunity when Izalis was alone or in solitude. The town we were currently in, governed by a relatively obscure little princess, was indeed an excellent hiding spot.
In other words, we just needed to settle here to evade detection, and then plan our next steps to thwart the two princesses’ intentions of eliminating Izalis.
While that was true, however…
The elven saintess’s reasoning for such a statement was not for her own escape, but rather… to show off.
“~”
The next moment, her “calm and composed” demeanor, as if victory was assured, combined with her excuse of “I’m not used to walking” while clinging to my arm, reignited some of the embers of conflict that had only just begun to cool.
“Miss Izalis…”
In such a situation, of course, I couldn’t shout anything about the elven saintess, as this point made Kfeir’s displeasure sound utterly lacking in authority.
“Just a reminder, we will definitely have to leave Rodland afterward, so you’d better consider your escape route in your future plans.”
It sounds like they are considering the Elf Saintess, but no matter how I interpret it, the crux of Kephir’s words is clear: we will leave.
However, the unfortunate truth is that the Elf Saintess is not buying it at all.
“Lady Kephir, thinking too far ahead is meaningless; we need to find a way to get through the present, don’t we?”
With that, the Elf’s gaze turned towards me, her expression unmistakably conveying one message: she knows that if I don’t deal with her danger, we won’t be leaving.
Perhaps she guessed from my previous actions, and as a result, this Elf Saintess has firmly grasped my next intentions. Not to mention, her arm around mine is getting dangerously close to my waist as we walk!
【Izalis towards…】
What a joke! I can tell with my backside what Izalis thinks of me! So…
“Can we be a little more peaceful? Let’s not draw attention; we need to find a place to settle down first.”
With danger ahead and pursuers behind, this “peach blossom luck” script I’m facing, embodied by the Elf girl Izalis, really needs to stop causing a ruckus around me…
This is far more troublesome than any death script could ever be.
