Chapter 2651 – 2651. Daily Quest
I looked out the car window as we drove.
The sun had completely set, and it was dark outside.
“Shouldn’t we be sleeping soon? Is there a decent motel at a rest stop? Or are we sleeping in the car?”
Hazel gave me a look as if I were ridiculous.
“It’s morning for me right now. Sleep? Sorry, but there’s no time to sleep from now until sunrise. If you’re really sleepy, just sleep on your own.”
She was quite serious, considering she had said she would never sleep with me. It seemed like not sleeping was no joke.
“Hmm. Spending the night with a blonde beauty isn’t bad. By the way, this isn’t much of a date. Do you have a boyfriend?”
“Haa. I’m telling you in advance, I’m not a woman who’s easy.”
But wasn’t the blonde, tanned ponytail look quite the opposite of that? Of course, she was definitely not an ordinary woman. An ordinary woman wouldn’t be driving a pickup truck on the road at this hour.
‘I deliberately acted a bit brazen… Should I change my flirting style?’
I couldn’t change my attitude right away.
I had a casual conversation with Hazel. Hazel seemed bored just driving, so she responded well to the conversation. She was a bit tomboyish, just like she looked.
What I learned was that Hazel was a freelance hunter not affiliated with any guild or association.
It was quite surprising because C-rank or higher hunters usually belonged to a guild or hunter association. At least in Korea, the only freelance hunter I knew was Park Suho.
“How’s the income as a freelance hunter?”
“It’s not stable, like all freelancers. But I earn enough. Especially since I only take special requests.”
“Still, isn’t it a hassle to work as a freelance hunter? Taxes, legal procedures, and you don’t get the benefits of being in an association or guild.”
“The World Hunter Association takes care of that. My main client is the World Hunter Association.”
“Oh. Connections.”
The World Hunter Association was something to acknowledge. They were guys whose limits I couldn’t even fathom. Though they didn’t seem like much.
“Aren’t you going to eat dinner?”
“There are sandwiches in the back. Help yourself. They should still be fresh.”
I craned my neck to check the back seat. It was a mess. Things and bags were scattered everywhere. Even clothes were on the floor, and there was even underwear just lying around. A black thong. And there was a bit of grime on the center part. It seemed like it hadn’t been washed in a while.
‘An A-rank hunter is camping in her car?’
Come to think of it, it was already beyond my common sense that an A-rank hunter was driving a pickup truck herself.
‘Should I ask if she’s not wearing panties right now?’
“Are you not wearing panties right now?”
“Fuck you. Watch your mouth.”
“Okay. Sorry.”
I took out a sandwich in a plastic bag from my bag. I smelled it. It had a slightly sour smell. There was no way a sandwich left in the back of a car in the desert would be okay. I saw other emergency rations in the bag.
‘I wouldn’t eat that even if you gave it to me.’
I threw the sandwich out the window.
“Did you just throw away my meal?”
“That’s not a meal. It’s food waste. The Earth will take care of it.”
“Environmental groups will try to kill you if they see you.”
“I’ll win.”
I took out a hamburger and cola that Yuria had made from my inventory. Hazel skillfully ate the hamburger with one hand.
“This is really delicious. Did you make this too?”
“I didn’t make it, but only I can get it.”
“A fairy, huh? Should I kidnap a fairy too? It seems like it would be convenient.”
The short dinner was over. She continued to speed down the road. Honestly, it was questionable why she even turned on the navigator. The roads were so long, typical of the American scale, that we were just going straight.
‘It would be nice to have a round of sex right now.’
Hazel, despite being a tanned blonde, had a tight guard. She didn’t give me much attention.
Beep.
The navigator made a sound. Then it automatically changed the route.
“Hazel. Your navigation is broken, isn’t it?”
“No. That’s normal.”
Hazel turned the steering wheel in the direction the navigator was pointing. She left the well-paved road and sped through the sandy desert. She zipped past cacti.
“By any chance, am I being kidnapped?”
“You’re just realizing that now?”
“Okay, okay. Enough with the jokes. Where exactly are we going?”
“Vampire hunting.”
“…What?”
I checked the Yuhee Life app. For a moment, I was confused if I had come to a fictional world. After checking, it wasn’t the Yuhee world.
“There are real vampires in this world?”
Come to think of it, I remembered the vampires who had wreaked havoc in Europe when the world was destroyed last time. The vampires who were having a human flesh party.
“You have a fairy, and you’re talking nonsense. Weren’t you in the same category as me? A fairy hunter.”
“I’m an S-rank (True) hunter. You’re lucky. You got to meet and form a bond with me, a future S-rank hunter.”
“Yeah, yeah. Future S-rank hunter. So, aren’t you getting out? Vampires are different from dealing with ordinary monsters. It’s dangerous.”
“But you’re not forcing me out?”
“If you looked like a B-rank or lower, I would have kicked you out right away.”
“Well, fine. I’ll help with whatever it is, vampires or whatever. But it’s a bit surprising that there are vampires in America. Vampires are usually in Europe.”
“They mixed in during the pioneer era. My family came to America chasing after them.”
A vampire hunter family.
Come to think of it, it wasn’t that surprising. There were exorcist families in Korea too. There was no reason why there wouldn’t be such forces in other countries.
“This navigator? Is it a vampire detector?”
“The navigator itself is normal. The World Hunter Association is sending the information.”
The car stopped.
In the distance, I could see an abandoned farm and buildings. The pickup truck stopped.
“Get ready.”
“Ready for what?”
“Combat, of course.”
She headed to the truck bed. I hadn’t paid attention, but now I saw a black coffin in the truck bed. It was a luxurious coffin with a silver cross inlaid on it.
“Do you carry corpses around?”
“Of course not.”
She stroked the coffin. Warm golden mana flowed out and seeped into the coffin. The coffin glowed, and the lid opened on its own.
Inside the coffin were a black coat, a shotgun, a pistol, a sword, and a silver cross necklace.
‘I can feel a power similar to Hazel’s mana.’
“It’s a family heirloom. If you put things in this coffin for a certain amount of time, the power of the sun will permeate them. Vampires hate it.”
Hazel put on the coat, a pistol on her waist, a sword on her back, and a shotgun in her hand. And as a habit, she briefly kissed the cross necklace and looked at me.
“…I said get ready.”
I took out the Hwaryeon Flying Daggers from my inventory.
“Right. You had that. Okay, let’s go. You better be on your guard. Try not to step forward and stay behind me.”
“I’m an S-rank (True) hunter, you know.”
“Okay, okay. A future S-rank hunter.”
Should I show her the difference in power? No. That action might make her dislike me. If I dramatically save Hazel when she’s in danger, I might gain her favor.
‘But will there even be a time when she’s in danger? She’s an A-rank hunter, and her equipment is the perfect counter to vampires.’
I don’t know.
Let’s just see what the real vampires are like.
We drove for a while and stopped at a suitable distance from the building.
Thunder Sky Style Electromagnetic Wave.
Electromagnetic waves spread out in all directions from me. Among them, the electromagnetic waves that passed through the inside of the building were blocked.
‘There’s no way that old house can perfectly block electromagnetic waves… Is it a barrier?’
It wasn’t a physical barrier, but one that interfered with detection. It must be the know-how of the vampires who have survived until now.
“Just be careful about one thing. Don’t get bitten by a vampire.”
“What happens if I get bitten? Do I transform into a vampire?”
“Ordinary people become vampire servants, and it’s a deadly poison for awakened people who can handle mana. You might not die, but you might have permanent disabilities.”
“Okay. I’ll be careful.”
She kicked the old house door with her foot, holding the shotgun tightly. Bang! The mansion door fell off. And as if waiting, a monster in human form jumped out and attacked. Pale skin, melted hair, and long, extended nails.
Bang!
The monster’s upper body was blown away by one shot from Hazel’s powerful double-barreled shotgun. The remaining upper body was burning and gradually disappearing.
‘Is that the power of the sun?’
“That’s a vampire servant. At the hunter level, it’s about C-rank.”
“A C-rank hunter can at least withstand one shotgun blast.”
“My shotgun and my power are a nightmare for vampires. These guys are stupid, but their strength and regeneration are not ordinary, so don’t let your guard down.”
Crack!
Vampire servants jumped out from the ceiling, walls, and behind the broken sofa. Hazel drew the sword from her back. Golden sword energy surged on the blade, illuminating the surroundings. She skillfully dealt with the vampire servants.
“One over there!”
A servant appeared from the hallway and rushed towards me. It was disgustingly ugly.
Pzzzt.
Red current flowing along the red blade of the Hwaryeon Flying Dagger.
Thunder Sky Style Lightning Flash.
A red beam split the body of the rushing servant in half. Deformed organs and rotten blood poured out, dirtying the floor.
Thunder Sky Style Electromagnetic Wave.
The electromagnetic waves were not blocked inside the building. Thanks to that, I sensed a presence hiding on the second-floor ceiling.
“There’s one hanging upside down on the second-floor ceiling.”
“…I can’t see it from the first floor. Where exactly is it?”
I pointed with my finger. Hazel took out her pistol and held it in her hand. Her golden energy seeped into the pistol, or rather, the bullet.
Bang!
A bullet shot out, leaving a golden trail in the air. The vampire on the ceiling dodged the bullet by throwing itself to the side. It had prepared in advance after hearing our conversation.
“Those damn hunter bastards…!!”
The enraged vampire shouted and swung its claws. A dark red slash destroyed the building and rushed towards us. Hazel dodged the slash as if she was used to it and went out the window. Of course, I also left the building. I didn’t want to be buried under the building and covered in dust.
And the vampire also jumped out of the building. And I was a little disappointed.
‘Unlike the pale vampires with long ears I saw when the world was destroyed, this guy looks like a mix of a bat and a human.’
The vampire flapped its wings in the air and glared at us. Then, after confirming Hazel’s face, it burst into laughter.
“That appearance and that smell…. I remember. John McCarthy, that damn bastard’s daughter has finally grown up! The smell of a maiden is strong! She’s ripe and delicious! Ah. The blood of a maiden vampire hunter…. How delicious it will be….”
The vampire drooled. I quietly admired the guy’s ability to discern virgins.
“…You, you’re that bastard from back then! Where’s Aiden?!”
“Are you looking for him? Hehe. I’ll tell you. After I taste your blood first!!”
Dark red power flowed from the vampire’s entire body. It was a kind of mana. That power was above an A-rank hunter. Hazel gripped her shotgun.
“Do you know why I’ve remained a virgin until this age? It’s because you pathetic vampires are so obsessed with virgin blood that you can’t run away.”
“Arrogant girl. You seem to have confidence in your skills after dealing with pathetic things… But I’m different from them. The comparison itself….”
The vampire seemed to sense something and tried to dodge.
But it was too late.
Kwakwakwakwang!
A bolt of lightning struck the guy, illuminating the surrounding area. The guy staggered in the air but didn’t fall right away.
I flicked my left hand.
Kwakwakwakwang!
A new lightning bolt fell and lit up the ground. The vampire that was hit fell to the ground.
Wriggle, wriggle. The vampire, whose whole body was scorched, tried to get up without dying.
“You mosquito bastard dares to touch my woman? Remember this. Only I can eat my woman.”
Flick.
Kwakwakwakwang!
Another lightning bolt fell. I used more mana than before. The lightning itself had physical force.
The vampire’s head exploded. But the flesh gathered on the torso and began to regenerate the head.
“Vampires don’t die that way. I’ll take care of it.”
I stopped Hazel from stepping forward.
“Wait. Let me test if it really doesn’t die.”
Thunder Sky Style Lightning Art Evil Lightning.
I threw the navy blue lightning that surged from my hand towards the vampire. Lightning imbued with the attribute of demonic energy. It began to burn the vampire’s body like firewood.
“Kuaaaaaaak! What is this lightning!!!”
“It’s lightning for a guy like you. Once you’ve been hit, it will remain forever as long as you don’t die.”
The guy’s screams continued to echo. Hazel looked back and forth between me and the vampire and said.
“Yujin. I’m not your woman.”
I shrugged my shoulders.
