Chapter 108 – Zombie Apocalypse 2 (16)
I packed up a new bat and seeds and headed to the supermarket right next door with Naeun.
There were several pieces of paper attached to the inside of the mart that you entered through the entrance.
Things to keep in mind at the supermarket were written in large red letters.
1. Prohibition on revealing the location of the mart.
2. No internal disputes.
There were only two rules, but they seemed to tell Choi Seong-tae how he wanted to lead the mart.
“Do you think number 1 was done because of you? Don’t post the video you shot in the morning.”
“That could be true. The video I filmed before was at night and I could at least tell that it was Korea, but the footage filmed today during the day is because I can tell where it is by looking at the sign.”
Due to the supermarket’s policy of not accepting people, it would be better if the location were not made public.
You might lose your head just thinking about the universities and officetels around here.
The supermarket seemed deserted, probably because there were quite a few people out with the search team, but the Park siblings came rushing over when they spotted us.
“Brother! Sister!”
“Have you practiced handling the spear sufficiently?”
“Yes. I’m still okay, but Eun-seo says she doesn’t have the strength to use a spear.”
“Really? That can’t be helped because it’s not light.”
The supermarket’s window was a decent weight for an adult woman to lift, but not suitable for a weak girl.
Eunseo had a feeling similar to that of an elementary school student, as a high school girl might not know.
“So I decided to help with the meals.”
“Really? Eunseo, can you cook well?”
Eunseo told Naeun, and when Naeun asked, she kept her mouth shut.
I will help little by little, starting with distribution.
“Well, Sian, I’m not good at cooking either, but it was delicious, right?”
“Huh? Yes. You’re not going to say you can’t do that, are you?”
Although the ingredients used so far were a bit poor, Naeun’s cooking skills in preparing them to taste good were not lacking.
After chatting briefly with the two people, who had brightened up quickly compared to when I found them last night, I headed to the customer support room where Seongtae Choi was.
“Mr. Xian, are you here?”
I handed the seeds to Seongtae Choi, who was sitting down and doing paperwork.
“Yes. I heard that they set out to collect dirt.”
“I think I can put in as many as I can and finish it all at once. Once I start tending the garden, the car wash will be a little noisy, but is that okay?”
“More than silence at all, moderate noise makes people feel more alive… I guess zombies will come.”
“Yes. We don’t have enough manpower to guard the entrance to the mart.”
I know that the supermarket work schedule is quite tight.
“I will take care of that.”
“Thank you so much.”
Seongtae Choi bowed his head and expressed his gratitude.
And I had no choice but to briefly talk about what we saw today.
“Did you know that we went out for a bit after lunch during the day?”
“Yes. I heard from the security guard at the entrance. He said he brought a piece of metal shortly afterward, and that’s what it is.”
Seongtae Choi said after looking at the iron bat I was holding.
“It looks very clunky, but it seems useful.”
Naeun said that it is a weapon that looks stupid if you carry it around.
“I got this, but before that, I went to the officetel where the Park siblings were.”
“Ah. Since there is no contact there, I cannot accurately understand the situation. What was it like there? Was it a place where those children could escape?”
“The reason I first decided to go there was because I heard from the kids that there were zombie corpses piled up. You know the conditions for the appearance of synthetic zombies, right? So I thought they had appeared there and went to see what happened.”
When Choi Seong-tae heard those words, his expression became slightly distorted.
“Did you think they had dragged the synthetic zombies of the morning with them? So, we went on a reconnaissance…”
“It’s not that that part isn’t there at all, but I wanted to see the class-divided life there. I don’t know if you heard, but I heard that they asked Eun-seo to be a ‘woman’ as a condition of protection.”
“Are they crazy?”
In this part, Seongtae Choi and I seemed to agree.
“So I went to take a look, and the place where zombies were supposed to be piled up was burning zombie corpses. Seeing that the entrance was broken, it was clear that synthetic zombies had come out. There were a lot of people living in the room.”
“The supermarket seems to be in a slightly better situation.”
“It’s incomparably better. It feels like the upper class, men with the strength to fight, receive women as prizes.”
“As expected, powerless women suffer a lot.”
The young women in the supermarket these days have the mental strength to stab their hearts with their own daggers if something like that happens.
It can be said that he became a warrior.
“And I also found out that the people there have completely different tendencies. Except for the moderates at the university, all nearby groups are enemies.”
“Maybe after another week or so, there will be a lot of people who don’t have enough food.”
“It would be like that if we weren’t located in a supermarket. Usually, families don’t have that much food.”
Seongtae Choi said while looking at the uncombined map.
Since it showed that there were more people there than expected who had chosen to hide there, it seemed like they were considering an attack due to food shortage.
“Are they all enemies even then?”
“Yes, the enemy.”
After confirming Seongtae Choi’s firm will, Naeun and I left the customer support room.
“I think it’s become really difficult to get into the supermarket, except when it first recruits people.”
“That’s right. The big thing is that I can’t trust other people.”
The Buddhist group was a bit different because they were an overtly bully group, but it was clear that they stopped trusting people because of that incident.
If I hadn’t brought the Park siblings, she wouldn’t have received it.
I just realized that I should refrain from bringing people over.
“In some ways, it’s easy to be either an ally or an enemy, but I think it’s difficult.”
“That’s right. If it feels like this here too, I don’t know if we can go back to the way it was.”
It didn’t mean much since we weren’t going to cook, but as we walked around looking at the leftover food, it felt like we were at an old supermarket looking around for things to buy.
We were running low on meat that needed to be refrigerated or frozen, and there were plenty of convenience foods and ramen that could be stored at room temperature.
“Sian, do you want to eat something?”
The lady asked me as I was looking around for food.
“Nothing in particular. I will eat whatever you give me.”
“For someone who cooks, you know that’s a difficult answer, right?”
“Ahaha. Thank you for your dinner too.”
After finishing my errands at the supermarket, I was about to go back to the car wash, but it was noisy outside.
“Have the people who scooped up dirt returned?”
“It’s a little strange to say that, but isn’t it true?”
Our guess seems to be correct as we see Choi Seong-tae carrying seeds out from the direction of the customer support office.
As I went outside with the people at the supermarket, men came back with bags full of dirt in carts.
“Let’s finish working and rest. We have to finish work before dinner!”
Using a spear blade, he tore off the bag and started pouring dirt onto the car wash floor.
I sprinkled the soil to an appropriate height and piled up the rocks I brought as a bonus on the outside, and soon a large garden about half the size of a car wash was created.
Is this possible because so many people gather? I couldn’t have done it alone.
“Mr. Dujin, here are the seeds.”
“It really is there. Then, all you have to do is dig a hole in a fairly straight line and plant the seeds.”
I don’t know where I got it from, so I attached a small trowel to the tip of the spear and dug a long groove.
And the people who received seeds from Lee Du-jin sowed the seeds and then covered them with their feet.
“I think we can just get the water from the sink. I’ll finish the finishing touches, so thank you all for your hard work!”
When Lee Doo-jin said that, the men who came out for support and the patrol team headed to the mart.
“Let’s go in.”
“Ah. I’m tired.”
“I tried shoveling for the first time since I got out of the military, and my body remembers it.”
Lee Du-jin filled the watering can he have picked up from somewhere and began watering the ground where he had sown the seeds.
Is this the birth of a supermarket farmer? I approached Lee Du-jin, who was spraying water, and asked.
“Dujin Lee, is this enough?”
“Hmm, I honestly don’t know if the people at the supermarket will be able to share enough. Still, it would be nice if we could start with this and expand it further.”
Seeds of green onions or cabbage could not be used.
To do it better, you would need a large area of land, but since it was late today, I thought it would be better to do it this way.
“There is no need to watch the watering process.”
“You don’t want to be attacked by zombies that suddenly appear.”
After spending some time with Naeun watching Lee Doojin spray water on the garden, we returned to the car wash office.
“Sian, can we harvest that and eat it?”
“Looking at what’s written on the back of the bag, it looks like it will take about two weeks at the earliest. Until then, you can eat it at the supermarket.”
I don’t know any magic related to plants, and there’s nothing I can do about it.
I’ve seen orcs, who can be called druids, grow plants using magic, but that’s all I’ve seen.
If those orcs were here, I wouldn’t have to worry about food issues.
“I didn’t know I would want to eat salad.”
“Then let us protect this place well.”
Fresh vegetables are the reason we settle down in supermarkets.
But if there were a mountain, you could collect wild vegetables, and it would be much easier to create a garden like this, right?
Considering long-term survival, the mountain where the university was located was an attractive terrain.
