Chapter 166 – Division (6)
Preparations for the operation went smoothly.
Orland’s soldiers knew Drek-Psy’s location, and Fabian personally identified Drek-Psy’s behavior patterns through an undercover investigation in the snowfield. Drek-Psy, whom I first met in the snow, had his muscles overflowing, his face was covered with ghosts, and he was a sincere villain who did not neglect his training every day.
Watching him steadily punching in the snow every day and learning how to use prosthetic hands, it was to the point where I thought he was great even as an enemy.
Fabian read Drek-Psy’s movements, estimating which direction would be most effective when attacking. Its body was solid, but there were still gaps here and there due to the clumsy use of the prosthetic arm. He and he said he was going to fight alongside Orlando, not alone.
The odds were good enough.
Drek – If only Cy is eliminated, the demon army will fall. Drek – After sending Psy’s head to the capital, the voices of those criticizing the hero in the capital will also diminish. Fabian stroked his sword and looked at the snowfield.
After killing them, Alexander’s position will be difficult. He was the one who drove the heirs of the aristocratic faction who supported him to death. Wolf will be able to survive as a hero again. Drek – Psy’s neck will be proudly improved to the capital together with Orlando.
Fabian laughed as he thought about these political issues. He had never thought of such a problem in the old days. If Wolff kills, he kills, if he says he’s a bad guy, he’s bad, he believed. He thought that the problems caused by swinging the sword would be solved by swinging the sword more.
However, the world was more complicated than Fabian had thought, and Wolf was not the person Fabian had thought. That was all. The answer to the problem Fabian was suffering from now was implied in these two sentences.
“Did you think of anything interesting?”
Orlando asked a question. Fabian shook his head. In the corner, two men from the capital were looking at each other with worried eyes. It’s been a long time since the two men’s mission changed to evacuate Drek-Psy’s head, following Fabian’s boast that he would bring back the head of Drek-Psy.
The man asked Fabian.
“By the way, what are you going to do after catching that Drek – Psy? Will he return to the capital together?”
“No. I won’t go back to the capital.”
There were still many demons in the North. Maybe hunting those demons could be a good pastime. Said Orlando.
“Are you going to be in the North?”
“You have to go up to the capital. The capital needs people like you.”
“If I go up to the capital, I’m afraid I’ll get stained again.”
Orlando said so in a serious tone. Fabian couldn’t get used to Orlando’s thick voice and polite manner of speaking. The Orland he knew was a human being like the rough sea and was rude. The men listened to the conversation between Orlando and Fabian and cautiously went outside.
*****
“Yes, I think it will be difficult to convince. Fabian-sama is here and says he’s going to bring Drek-Psy’s head.”
A man was watching in the dark shadows of the north. The other man, curled up like a beggar, was communicating with the outside world through a magic tool. Made with a complex principle, this magic communicator was only given to agents in hard-to-reach remote areas.
The man nodded his head in response to the voice coming from the other side, then Boo explained.
“Well, even Orlando himself is making a fuss about not going back. If you go to the capital, you’ll get stained or something. I don’t know what to say to come back.”
Then, a short piece of information flowed from the other side of the communicator. The man heard the information and asked while tilting his head.
“Yes? What do you mean?”
A slightly longer explanation continued over the communicator. After carefully listening to the explanation, the man widened his eyes, nodded his head, and smiled.
“Ah, that certainly deserves a return! Yes, right then… !”
Bang!
And a roar rang out. The entire base tilted. The two men faced each other with puzzled faces, then hurriedly started running in search of Orlando and Fabian. The guards shouted.
“It’s a raid! It’s an enemy!”
The man standing on the watchtower frantically waved the bell. Even in the sound of the wind that bit the skin, the bell rang fiercely, indicating that the enemy had attacked. Orlando shouted with a calm face.
“Don’t panic! It’s always an attack! The archers are in their places! The spearmen rearrange their formations, focusing on the collapsed walls, to stop them!”
Fabian was examining his surroundings with his dagger drawn. Orlando said it was a regular raid, but Fabian felt differently. He could feel the terrifying speculation that even he, who had faced the attack for the first time here, could tell.
Amidst the wind and blizzard, a sound resounded one after another, like raindrops splashing. The sound, faintly resounding from a distance like a firecracker exploding, hit the snowflakes one after another and went against the wind.
Fabian and Orland saw a huge boulder passing over their heads. A huge stone passed by, crushing the entire watchtower along with the roof, enough to hide the two people in the shadows. The crushed pieces of flesh and intestines froze to white in an instant, and the stone disappeared beyond the white horizon.
The bell stopped ringing.
“He came!”
Orlando gritted his teeth and shouted. Fabian saw a huge demon walking through the snow. And he could face the little demons that surged around him like waves. Orland could guess the scale just by looking at the ground and the shadows.
“Nonsense! It will take more time to gather the demons that have spread to other northern mountain ranges!”
The main reason why Orlando and the northern garrisons were able to hold the land was because they dispersed the demons’ forces through appropriate guerrilla operations. By disorganizing the wires and blocking the most important roads, Orland stopped them from breaking through.
But now, in front of Orlando’s eyes, there were a number of demons that couldn’t be in the original Drek-Psy camp. Apparently, the report said the demons hadn’t come up yet. So, I thought I had plenty of time, but the speed at which the soldiers gathered was too fast.
Drek – I heard Psy’s laughter.
Haha! Captain of the North! Did you think your strategy worked? How long did you think your army could hold out against the hell demons? Me! Drek-Psy’s army won’t fall for such a sloppy operation!”
Drek – There was a tall pole hanging next to Psy. There, a flayed man was moaning in pain.
“Mi, sorry! Captain Orland! Aaaaa! No, bastards!”
Drek – Psy waved the pole like a toy and pulled the man out. He rolled the red shape into a ball, and he swung it once more like a ball. A red straight line pierced the middle of the fence and blew off one of the archers’ heads.
The spearmen kept being pushed back by the demons rushing in, and the archers were being killed one by one by Drek-Cy’s support and the demons that broke through the spearmen.
Orland swung his sword on the front line and spat out swear words. Fabian cut the demon from Orland’s back and spoke to him.
“His military action was faster than expected. He has to back off.”
“I can’t back down!”
Orlando said so. Fabian tried to convince him, then he nodded. Orland wasn’t holding out because of his pride. He couldn’t back down any longer than he had. After getting out of the mountain range where Orland and Fabian were now, the northern snowfields spread out. After running for a long time in the snowy field with no place to hide, I was able to find a winter mountain and a village.
It might have been Fabian, but Orland and his soldiers couldn’t escape the demons’ pursuit in the snowfield.
Fabian hesitated. Because here he didn’t have the courage to tell Orland to go die. He has to pierce hundreds, maybe even thousands of demons, and mortally wound Drek-Cy.
He had no chance of coming back alive.
The thought of driving Orlando to death kept him hesitant. Fabian cut down a demon and said.
“Orlando, I…”
“What are you doing!”
Orland cut Fabian off. He shouted vigorously brandishing his sword.
“Come on! Shouldn’t we defeat that devil! Please tell me the operation again! I might make a mistake!”
Fabian looked at Orlando. At first glance, Fabian seemed to have seen the face of a hero in him. The face of a warrior, never seen before in Wolf, seemed to pass like lightning through his stern face.
“Hey, stop! Stop! Run away! Orlando! Orlando! Even you have to run away! Here’s a teleport scroll! A man like you, Orlando, shouldn’t die here!”
The man shouted, waving the scroll. Both Orlando and Fabian looked at the man and frowned. Orlando didn’t even respond to him and tried to turn around again. The man shouted in an urgent voice.
“Wait a minute! Wait for a sec! Sophia! Yes Sofia! I just got information about Sophia! I found Sophia!”
And, at those words, Orlando stopped. Fabian suppressed the urge to cut the man down and cut off another demon at his feet. Even now, while the two were confronting, the formation was collapsing, and huge stones were flying like a natural disaster.
Said Orlando.
“…You found Sophia?”
“Exactly! It is said that she is hiding on the farm of Plantia Isabel and living as a maid! Come on, let’s go back! I’ll give you that Sophia! Uh?”
Orlando blinked in silence. Snow fell, and Drek-Psy’s lights rang out. Said Orlando.
“Sophia, how are you?”
“Yeah, yes! Still healthy… But… !”
“I just need to be healthy.”
“What?”
The man looked at Orlando with a surprised face.
Orlando turned around. He drew his sword and shouted.
“For Sophia!”
And started running towards Drek-Psy.
